Weybridge Registry Office Wedding - Marian and Tom

How did you first meet?

We met in Fuerteventura ten years ago

Please describe the proposal

We went out for a meal in a bar one evening and to my surprise, Tom asked me to marry him.

The dress – where did you find it, and what was it like? Who did you take with you dress shopping and how did you find the whole experience?

My two daughters and I went for the dress shopping.  I had heard of the place through my daughter’s friend.  It was in the Oxo tower in London, unfortunately it is no longer there though.  I knew as soon as I put the dress on, that it was the one for me.  I didn’t even need to try any others on.

What where the reasons for choosing your wedding venue?

We had looked at several different locations, but this one felt right – quiet and a beautiful setting – perfect for us.

When planning your wedding, did you have any help or did you do it mostly yourselves? What were the most important aspects for you?

I had help planning the wedding as it was a lot to undertake on our own.  The most important part was finding the right photographer who could capture the moments of our special day.

What was your wedding inspiration?

I had a purple underskirt for my dress and I tried to incorporate that colour theme throughout the planning.

Describe some of your favourite wedding details and how you came up with them.

I loved the favours that we did – we had small bottles of Gin for the ladies, and whiskey for the men.  We had them in small hessian bags and used these as the place settings too.  I also loved the birdcages that we had as a centre piece on each table.  The florist had entwined the flowers through it, to make it a little more special.

Bride: What advice would you give to future brides for their wedding day?

Relax and enjoy the day.  It goes so quickly, so make sure that you enjoy the moment and don’t stress about the little things that may/may not go wrong.

Groom: What advice would you give to future grooms for their wedding day?

Just turn up on time and enjoy the day

Any advice for those planning their wedding now?

Plan well in advance, so that you’re not leaving things to the last minute and getting stressed out.  Enjoy the process, it flies by.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

You don’t have to be extravagant to have a special day.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

I’m glad that I spent more on the photographer.  Having seen the photos that he captured, I love reliving our day over again.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Enjoying life together.

York House, Twickenham Wedding Photography

Pre Blog Post

I met Emma and Nick during another event where Nick was lead singer with his band. We got chatting and they mentioned that they were getting married soon. Even spookier was the fact that Emma worked with my cousins wife for the Fire Brigade. Anyway, they decided to book me and I couldn’t wait for their wedding day as it was in Twickenham with a reception on Eel Pie Island which is famous for people such as the great Phil Collins!

As the date got nearer, Emma let me know that she had a surprise for Nick which was a new guitar and he had a surprise for her, a yacht to take them to the reception.

I arrived at the venue early as parking is always difficult in London. I bumped into Ash, the best man who is also in the band and has an accomplished solo singing career. We started the days photography there and then in the car park taking pictures of the guests as they arrived.

The ceremony was small yet beautiful. Then it was on to the gardens of York House which are magnificent. I really mean this. They had everything, even their own version of the Trevi Fountain. The group shots were a challenge as the sun was very bright and there was little to no shade but we managed to find a nice spot. The guests then left for the local riverside pub and we hit the couple shots.

After a nod and a wink from Nick, it was time to head for the yacht. I love the river and I certainly loved this yacht. Oh, to win the lottery! Once on the yacht, Nick discovered his guitar and I swear I saw a tear or two as he was overcome with emotion.

We pulled up outside the yacht club on Eel Pie Island where Nick and Emma were greeted by their guests and a glass of champagne. They had decided on an afternoon tea for their reception which was novel and very sophisticated - just right for a river based wedding with yachts.

Enjoy the images and if you are getting married I would love to chat.

Brian & Jon | Cantley House Hotel | Wokingham

Brian and Jon booked me for a half day when they decided to marry at the fabulous Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham.

It was a sunny day but fun was had by all.

Cantley House is a gorgeous venue with stunning grounds. It also has a barn which is an ideal setting for the wedding breakfast, whether its summer or winter. In fact in the winter there is a roaring fire!! The fire was not needed for this day though.

Here is a selection of images that I took on the day.

Manfrotto Professional roller bag-70 - Pre-review | Andrew Dawson Photography

Professional roller bag-70

I have been amazed at how well my business has grown in the past few years. In that time I have invested in lots of new gear and that means I now have gear overload! Shooting weddings and travelling around means I need to keep my equipment to a minimum. I found that I was taking several bags of gear to weddings and it was becoming a bit silly.

I needed a bag that would take the majority of my kit but keep me light!!

Manfrotto Roller Bag

I did lots of research and found that most bags were £400 or more. Some were too small and others had poor reviews. I then found the Manfrotto case which was described as being well made to protect your gear and came with excellent reviews!

Manfrotto Roller Bag

I took the plunge and it arrived today. I was concerned that it would not be as big as I wanted and I would not be able to get my gear inside. I needn't have worried. I have been able to put 2xD750 camera bodies and all my lenses. I have also easily placed 4x flashes and triggers inside as well as spare batteries, iPad, and various other items for the wedding day.

This case will allow me or my assistant to have everything I need close by. It is also designed for travel which means that it will go on board a plane as carry-on and due to its robust design, it will travel in the hold and protect all of my gear. I am looking forward to using it at my next wedding later this month to see how it performs.

St. Michael's Manor Wedding | St. Albans Wedding | Andrew Dawson Photography

Natasha & Richard

Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.
— Anonymous

When Natasha asked Andrew Dawson Photography whether I would be prepared to travel to St. Albans to photograph her and Richards wedding at the fabulous St. Michael's Manor I jumped at the chance. Online the venue looked amazing and on the day it did not disappoint! In fact it surpassed as the sun was shining and the day was set to be an amazing one.

Natasha got ready in a room that had a balcony that overlooked the wedding venue grounds with a huge lake. From the balcony you could also see a small hut that the wedding ceremony was to be performed in. I had advised Natasha to have all of her wedding details ready for me so that I could photograph them. I started with the dress which was a Vera Wang and then moved onto the shoes and rings. There were lots of details and I had great fun and plenty of time with them, trying to get as creative as I could.

Richard arrived with the guys and the plan was that they would all go to the local pub for a few drinks whilst the girls got ready. I tagged along to capture some shots of them having fun. The boys were dressed in kilts which made for great photos as there were plenty of details to photograph.

I made my way back to Natasha whilst the guests enjoyed a pre-wedding drink in the hotel grounds. People then made their way to the lake hut for the ceremony and to wait for the bride.

I took a few more shots of Natasha pre-ceremony, making sure I photographed her wedding hair and some last minute make-up shots. It was then time to be escorted down to the lake by her Dad ready for the ceremony to begin.

The ceremony was lovely and intimate as you will see from the images below.

After the wedding, guests formed two lines for the happy couple to walk through and have confetti thrown which made for more fab pics. We then did the group shots and last of all the couple shots then it was drinks and food. Natasha and Richard chose not to have a party but instead hired a magician. Even though I had the best possible position I still couldn't fathom out how he did his tricks!!!

I had a great day with a smashing couple and fab guests. The venue comes highly recommended and the sunshine made this wedding my favourite of the year.

Hampshire Wedding Venues

I have put together this page and others like it to assist with your wedding planning. Here are some of the wedding venues locally that I recommend;

Cantley House Hotel Wedding

Wokingham Wedding Venue | Cantley House Hotel | Andrew Dawson Photography

I am one of the preferred suppliers for Cantley House Hotel in Wokingham so I guess it's natural to enjoy the opportunity to photograph weddings here and the wedding of Mandy and Jamie was no exception.

Set on the outskirts of Wokingham, Cantley House Hotel has a country house hotel feel about it. As you sweep up the winding driveway, you cannot help but feel impressed by its elegance.

Mandy and Jamie elected to have only 4hrs photography so enjoy the photos below and if you are getting married at Cantley House Hotel please do get in touch for a chat about your special day.

Minley Woods | Anniversary Photo Shoot | Andrew Dawson Photography

I was delighted when Richard called me one afternoon to tell me of his plans to surprise his wife for their 26th wedding anniversary. He told the story of how he had been based at Minley Mannor when he was in the military and this is where his romance had blossomed, ending in their eventual marriage. Richard wanted a gift for his wife that took them back to their time together at this special place and all of the great memories it held of their time there. He chose Andrew Dawson Photography to capture their love story in pictures. Jayden, their lovely dog was to also be featured as it was with Jayden that they enjoyed their walks through the woods whenever possible. So that Richard could give his wife a gift I sent Richard one of my photography vouchers to slip into her anniversary card.

We met up on a very bright and sunny Sunday morning. We didn't realise until we started our trek that they were filming for a Pokemon movie so naturally the security were a bit concerned that I may be unauthorised press when they saw my camera. Once reassured we set off for a fabulous and really enjoyable walk with lots of photos along the way.

As a photographer, I really enjoyed this family photography session. It's not often that I get fit whilst taking photos!
