A relaxed family wedding at The Bush Hotel, Farnham
Sarah-Jane and Connor’s wedding at The Bush Hotel in Farnham was planned around the things that matter most: family, togetherness and everyone having a brilliant time.
Set in the heart of Farnham, The Bush Hotel is a wonderful choice for couples who want a wedding day that feels relaxed, personal and full of character, with everything taking place in one elegant town-centre venue.
Wedding photography at The Bush Hotel, Farnham
The Bush Hotel is a beautiful Farnham wedding venue with a warm, welcoming feel. It works especially well for couples who want a wedding day that flows naturally, with the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations all taking place in one location.
For wedding photography, this makes the day feel calm and connected. There is time to capture the quiet morning moments, the ceremony, family photographs, relaxed portraits in the gardens and the atmosphere of the evening reception without needing to travel between venues.
Bridal preparations at The Bush Hotel
Sarah-Jane got ready at The Bush Hotel, which gave the morning a lovely relaxed feel. With hair and make-up taking place in the room, the morning preparations were a chance to capture the details, the excitement and the moments shared with those closest to her.
One of the planned photographs was a portrait on the staircase before the ceremony — exactly the kind of elegant, natural moment that suits a venue like The Bush Hotel.
These quieter parts of the day are often some of the most meaningful: the dress, the final touches, the reactions and the anticipation before walking into the ceremony.
A personal ceremony in the heart of Farnham
The ceremony took place at The Bush Hotel itself, with guests arriving shortly beforehand and the day flowing naturally from the ceremony into drinks, canapés and photographs.
For a Farnham wedding photographer, this kind of venue is ideal. Everything happens close together, which means more time can be spent capturing the genuine story of the day — the nerves, smiles, reactions, congratulations and those first moments as a married couple.
Relaxed wedding portraits in the gardens
Sarah-Jane and Connor wanted photographs together in the gardens, which is always a lovely part of a wedding day at The Bush Hotel. Couple portraits do not need to feel stiff or overly posed; the best images often come from giving a little gentle direction and then allowing the couple to relax into the moment.
My approach is to keep this part of the day calm, natural and enjoyable. A short walk, a quiet moment together and some soft direction are often all that is needed to create elegant portraits that still feel completely personal.
A wedding day centred around family
Family was clearly at the heart of Sarah-Jane and Connor’s day. Alongside natural documentary photographs, they also wanted a small number of important group photographs to make sure the key family connections were captured properly.
Whole group
A photograph of all guests together is a lovely way to remember everyone who shared the day.
Immediate family
Family photographs are often some of the most treasured images, especially when they are kept relaxed, simple and well organised.
Wedding party
Bridal party and groom party images add energy, personality and fun to the final gallery.
Drinks, canapés, speeches and celebration
After the ceremony, the afternoon moved into a relaxed drinks reception with canapés and photographs, followed by the wedding breakfast and speeches.
Speeches are always one of my favourite parts of a wedding day to photograph. They bring together emotion, laughter, nerves, proud reactions and spontaneous moments that cannot be recreated.
At The Bush Hotel, the flow from ceremony to reception makes it easy for guests to relax, which helps create the kind of natural, candid images that tell the story of the day properly.
Cake cutting, first dance and the Redgrave Room
The evening reception was planned for the Redgrave Room at The Bush Hotel, with cake cutting, the first dance and a DJ bringing everyone together for the night celebrations.
Evening photography has a completely different feel from the earlier part of the day. The formality drops away, the dance floor opens and the photographs become full of movement, atmosphere and personality.
