Driving Days — I've Got You Covered

You might have found me through my wedding photography, or you might have come looking for driving lessons. Either way, you're in the right place — and the two services have more in common than you might think.

Wedding Photography

Capturing the most important day of your life takes patience, calm under pressure, and a genuine connection with the people in front of the lens. I've been doing exactly that for couples across Lincolnshire — telling their story through images they'll treasure forever.

Why they work so well together

Both services are built on trust, patience, and being there for people during moments that really matter. A wedding is one of the biggest days of your life. Passing your driving test is one of the biggest achievements. In both cases, you deserve someone who genuinely cares about getting it right.

The same person, the same values

Whether I'm behind a camera or in the passenger seat of a dual-controlled car, I bring the same qualities — calm, attentive, professional, and completely focused on you. Many of my wedding clients have gone on to book driving lessons, and vice versa. It just makes sense.

Common Questions

What does PDI / Trainee Instructor mean?

A PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) is a trainee working towards full ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) status. Andy holds a DVSA-issued trainee licence, which means he is fully authorised to provide paid driving lessons under the supervision of LDC Driving School. All lessons are conducted in full compliance with DVSA regulations and LDC standards. Andy's background as a former police officer, combined with his RoSPA Gold award and IAM qualification, means the standard of instruction and driving expertise you receive is exceptionally high. Many learners actively choose PDI instructors as they tend to be highly motivated, recently trained in modern teaching methods, and very committed to their pupils' progress.

How many lessons will I need?

Everyone is different and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. The DVSA advises that the average learner takes around 45 hours of professional tuition alongside 22 hours of private practice. However, some people need more and some need less — and that's perfectly normal. Andy will assess your progress honestly at every stage and give you a clear picture of where you are and what still needs work. There's never any pressure to book more lessons than you need.

What car will I be learning in?

All lessons take place in a modern, dual-controlled manual car. The dual controls mean Andy can intervene safely if needed, giving you the confidence to push yourself without worry. The car is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained — a relaxed environment makes for better learning. Full details of the current lesson vehicle are available on request.

Do you offer automatic lessons?

Currently Andy offers manual transmission tuition only. This is actually the recommended route for most learners — passing in a manual gives you a full licence that allows you to drive both manual and automatic vehicles. If you pass in an automatic, your licence is restricted to automatic vehicles only. Unless you have a specific reason for needing an automatic (such as a medical condition), learning in a manual gives you far more flexibility as a driver.

Can you pick me up from home?

Yes — Andy can collect you from your home, school, college, or workplace at the start of each lesson, and drop you back at the end. This makes lessons as convenient as possible and means you're not spending time and money travelling to a meeting point. Just let Andy know your preferred pickup location when you book.

What is the LDC LD System?

The LD System is LDC's proven, student-centred approach to learning to drive. Rather than the instructor deciding what you work on each lesson, you use a personal workbook to track your own progress and identify what you want to focus on. This puts you in control of your own learning, helping you understand your own strengths and areas for improvement. Research shows that learners who take an active role in their own development tend to become safer, more confident drivers — and pass sooner. Andy is fully trained in delivering the LD System as part of his LDC franchise.

How do I book a lesson?

Booking is simple — just call or WhatsApp Andy on 07787 551460, or send a message via the Facebook page at facebook.com/LDCAndyDawson. Andy will have a friendly chat with you about your experience level, availability, and what you're hoping to achieve, and then get your first lesson booked in at a time that suits you. There's no obligation and no pressure — just get in touch and take it from there.

What do I need before my first lesson?

Before your first lesson you'll need a valid UK provisional driving licence. You can apply for one via the DVLA website if you don't already have one — you must be at least 17 years old. If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses to read or drive, make sure you bring them to every lesson. You don't need to bring anything else — Andy will provide everything you need to get started.

How long are the lessons?

Standard lessons are usually 1.5 or 2 hours. Longer lessons are generally more effective as they give you more time to get into a rhythm and make real progress, rather than spending time warming up and winding down. Andy will help you decide which lesson length suits you best based on your learning style, availability, and budget. Block bookings of 6, 10, or 12 hours are also available at a reduced rate if you'd like to plan ahead.

What if I'm nervous about learning to drive?

Nerves are completely normal — especially for first-time learners — and Andy is very experienced at putting people at ease. His background working calmly under pressure as a police officer means he is patient, reassuring, and never rushed. Lessons always move at your pace, and there is no pressure to tackle anything before you feel ready. Many of Andy's pupils have specifically chosen him because they felt anxious about driving, and have gone on to pass with confidence.

How do I pay for my lessons?

Payment is made directly to Andy by bank transfer — simple, straightforward, and no cash needed. Individual lessons can be paid for in advance of each session, or you can pay upfront for a block booking to save money. Andy will provide his bank details when you book. If you have any questions about payment just ask — there's no complicated system to worry about.

How long will it take to pass?

This varies from person to person and depends on factors like how often you have lessons, whether you do any private practice, and how quickly you pick things up. The DVSA suggests the average learner needs around 45 hours of professional tuition, but some people need more and some need less. Having lessons more frequently — rather than once a week — generally helps you progress faster, as skills stay fresher. Andy will give you honest feedback throughout so you always know where you stand.

What happens on test day?

Andy will aim to have a lesson with you on the morning of your test to help warm you up and settle your nerves. He will take you to the test centre, and you'll use his car for the test itself — which means you'll be driving a familiar vehicle on a familiar route. Andy will wait at the test centre while you take your test and will be there when you come back. Win or lose, he'll debrief with you afterwards and help you understand the next steps.
